Kawashi, as it is known in Japan, is the precursor to many modern arts. A comprehensive system involving not only throws and takedowns, but also striking, submissions & weaponry. Dating back to the age of samurais and still utilised by many modern combat athletes and military personnel, this art truly has it all.
What is Judo & Jujitsu?
So what is Judo & Jujitsu, and why are they packaged together? Jujitsu dates back to medieval Japan, and was the art used by samurais in all manners of warfare. Jujitsu included not only throws and takedowns, but also strikes, weaponry and joint locks (submissions). Judo is a more modern art that was developed in the late 1800's to appropriate Jujitsu for modern scenarios. Judo can be viewed as an art akin to MMA, where you can expect to learn techniques to fight from all positions. Judo still contains strikes, takedowns, throws and submissions. Usage and defence against weapons is also practiced in Judo, however weaponry used in Judo is more modern, including knives, batons and pistols.

Everyone! Judo is an incredibly diverse and complex sport, however it is very easy to get started in; regardless of your current fitness level or martial arts knowledge, you'll be able to jump straight into Judo and start learning.
